This Policy explains how Bowl for Belonging, operated to benefit Communities of Belonging (a Washington State 501(c)(3) nonprofit), collects and uses your information. We respect your privacy and collect only what we need to run the game, recognize donors, and steward gifts.

Prototype notice. This demonstration does not process real payments and stores your gameplay locally in your browser. The only data transmitted off your device is your email (to send and verify a one-time code) and a sign-up notification to the prototype operator.

1. Information we collect

  • You provide: first name, last name, and email address.
  • Verification: a one-time code we email you, and the fact that it was confirmed.
  • Gameplay: scores, frames bowled, difficulty, and (simulated) giving history. In this prototype these are stored in your browser’s local storage.
  • Technical: at sign-up we record IP address and browser user-agent for security and fraud prevention.
  • Donations (production): billing details are handled by our payment processor; we do not store full card numbers.

2. How we use information

  • To run the game, verify your email, maintain the leaderboard, and award prizes.
  • To process and acknowledge donations and issue tax receipts.
  • To communicate about your play, gifts, and the Organization’s mission (you can opt out of non-essential email).
  • To protect against fraud, abuse, and security incidents.

3. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers acting on our behalf, including:

  • Email delivery (Resend) to send verification codes and acknowledgments;
  • Hosting (Vercel) to operate the site;
  • Payment processing (e.g., Stripe / Givebutter) in production; and
  • Authorities where required by law.

4. Advertising

The free Game may show ads. In production, ad partners (e.g., Google AdSense/AdMob) may use cookies or device identifiers to serve and measure ads. You can reduce ad personalization through your device and Google Ad Settings, and donating removes ads.

5. Your choices & rights

  • Access, correct, or delete your information by contacting [email protected].
  • Clear local gameplay data anytime by logging out or clearing your browser storage.
  • Unsubscribe from non-essential emails using the link in any message.
  • Washington residents have rights under the Washington My Health My Data Act and other state law where applicable; we do not collect consumer health data.

6. Children

The Game is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

7. Data retention & security

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law (donation records are retained per IRS and Washington charitable-records requirements). We use reasonable safeguards, but no system is perfectly secure.

8. Contact

Questions about this Policy: [email protected]. Communities of Belonging is located in Washington State; charity registration details are available from the Washington Secretary of State.
